PRODUCT OVERVIEW
The Gran Passione, a blend of Corvina and Merlot, is crafted in the tradition of “Apassimento” (to dry and shrivel), the same style as Amarone wines of the region. This technique has its roots in an ancient past dating back to the Roman era. Over the centuries, this method of “drying” the grapes before crushing has been honed, resulting in this unique expression of northern Italy.*
The grapes for today's wine are hand-selected and harvested at the beginning of October to achieve the highest sugar content. After drying on the vines for about 15 days, they are pressed and the fermentation starts; the skins are left in the must for a period to extract and intensify the flavors. The wine is then aged in oak vats for 3 months;* this restrained use of oak adds complexity without making it too heavy, and all those generous fruit characters take center stage.
The 2021 Gran Passione is silky-textured, full-bodied, and abounds with aromas and flavors of blackberries and black raspberries. Accents of mocha, baking spices, and wet stone add complexity to the palate, and juicy acidity carries it to a long finish.
