Fratelli Grati is a family-owned winery located in the high hills of Chianti Rufina, just to the east of Florence. Villa di Vetrice is the family’s 15th century Tuscan villa and is the ancient soul of the property. Current caretaker Gualberto Grati has a deep reverence for the land; he espouses the philosophy that the Tuscan terroir is the driving force behind his impeccable wines and he is merely the guide.
Landowners for generations, the Grati family now owns over 500 hectares, including 140 hectares of vineyards throughout the Rufina zone. The vineyards are planted primarily to Sangiovese and include some plantings of Canaiolo, Colorino, Malvasia, and Trebbiano.
Today’s wine is crafted from 90% Sangiovese, 7% Canaiolo, and 3% Colorino sourced from vineyards within the Rufina Zone and is fermented with natural yeasts. Don’t let this wine’s price fool you - it is indeed high-quality, varietally correct, terroir driven, and delicious! Light-to-medium-bodied, it offers aromas of red fruits and and dominant flavors of black cherries, with accents of fennel, tobacco, brambly earth, and a hint of black pepper. Bright acidity keeps things things fresh and makes this wine a perfect paring with all things Italian and so much more.
