Third-generation Gulfi co-owners Matteo and Raffaele Catania stand apart from other Sicilian winemakers because of their dedication to the production of nero d'avolas that beautifully express their unique terroir, characterized by clay and calcerous, well-drained soils, abundant sunshine, Mediterranean climate, and proximity to the sea. Their estate in Pachino is located in the Province of Siracusa on the southeastern tip of the island. The region is known for its tomatoes, but it deserves props as a source of "grand cru" quality wines well.
Carricante (written on the label as Carjcanti) is an indigenous varietal to Sicily associated with the white wines of Mt.Etna. This bottling from the Gulfi winery is from the Monte Iblei area of southeastern Sicily, where they cultivate Carricante from a super small 1.5 hectare vineyard.
