Legendary Tuscan winemaker Piero Antinori wanted to take his expertise to the New World. His search led him to the Haras de Pirque estate in the Maipo Valley, which at that time was a thoroughbred horse breeding farm nestled in the Andes Mountains.
Antinori saw that the Maipo Valley's proximity to the Pacific Ocean, the Maipo River and the Andes Mountains, wide variation in day-to-night temperatures, excellent sun exposure, and porous, alluvial soils gave it the the goods to bring forth wines of exceptional depth, power, and finesse. He was so right, as evidenced by today's terrific offer.
Named after one of the most famous horses in Chilean horse racing, the 2021 Haras de Pirque Cabernet Sauvignon is an elegant and charming wine with a strong sense of place. Aged for 12 months in French oak barrels and then for another 12 months in the bottle, it is medium-to full-bodied, with aromas and flavors of fresh blackberries, blackcurrants, cassis, and cherries. On the palate, the fruit characters are layered with undertones of herbs, dark chocolate, and graphite. Tannins are firm yet pliant and do not detract from the wine's velvety texture. The finish is long, with notes of black fruits, licorice, and mint.

92 points, Vinous:
"The 2021 Gran Reserva Hussonet is a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from Pirque in the Maipo Valley. It deftly showcases the region's intense flavors. This terroir-driven wine features cherry, black pepper and herbal-spice notes on the nose. Dry, juicy and relatively light-bodied, its leaner palate reflects the rainy 2021 season, resulting in a savory, slender red wine."

90 points, Wine Spectator:
"The suave texture and dense fruit profile lend plenty of appeal to this red, with leather, loam and fresh thyme notes melding with macerated plum and cherry flavors. Ends with a push of licorice and cassis around mouth-coating tannins. Drink now through 2033."
