Isabel Estate was established in the early 1980s by former airline pilot Mike Tiller and his wife Robyn. In his piloting days Mike would fly over the land in the Wairu Valley that would someday become theirs, and it was Mike’s mother who encouraged them to purchase the land and realize their dream of starting a winery. Isabel Estate is named after her.
The Wairu Valley’s coastal sea breezes, abundant sunshine, protective mountain ranges, and well-drained soils all contribute to an ideal environment for the cultivation of vines that bring forth ultra-ripe grapes.
Today’s wine ranks among the best that Marlborough’s Wairu Valley has to offer. It has aromas of Ruby Red grapefruit, passion fruit and gooseberry that follow through on the concentrated palate, which also displays the classic Isabel “Old Vine” flinty minerality.
A creamy texture and vibrant acidity gives the wine weight, length and complexity.
