PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
For 142 years, four generations of the López de Heredia family have devoted themselves to producing exceptional and unique wines. They are masterpieces which the founder of the company, Rafael López de Heredia y Landeta, defined in the late nineteenth century as "Supreme Rioja". Vineyard care, scrupulous selection of grapes, extended aging in oak barrels and in bottles all contribute to making these illustrious wines with their exceptional bouquet.*

Viña Bosconia wines come from the estate vineyard called El Bosque. Originally, the founder of Lopéz de Heredia, with his French influence, gave the wines French-inspired names. Viña Bosconia comes from a Burgundy-style wine that he used to make with a high percentage of Pinot Noir, and which he called “Rioja Cepa Borgoña”.*

The El Bosque vineyard is situated next to the river Ebro at an altitude of 465m and it is one kilometer away from the winery. Vines are planted on the south-facing foothills of the Sierra Cantabria range, providing them with the perfect conditions for ripening. The soil is a mixture of clay and limestone, and the average age of the vines is 40 years. El Bosque consists of 15 hectares, 11 of which are Tempranillo, 2 of Garnacha,  1 of Mazuelo, and 1 of Graciano.*

In general, the usual cepage of Viña Bosconia Rioja Reserva features Tempranillo with lesser amounts of Garnacha, and the remainder of the blend Mazuelo and Graciano, all from the López de Heredia vineyards.

Viña Bosconia Rioja Reserva is generally aged for 5 years, racked twice a year, and fined with fresh egg whites. With all the meticulous attention in the vineyard and cellar, along with the time and energy that goes into crafting this wine, it is nothing short of jaw-dropping that the wine retails for anything less than $120 or more a bottle.
