Situated in the Bennet Valley between the towns of Santa Rosa and Sonoma, Matanzas Creek sources fruit from some of the best AVAs in the North Coast. The winery has been crafting outstanding wines for almost 40 years, but the quality really went through the roof when they hired winemaker Marcia Torres-Forno in 2010. Her years of experience, including a stint at Cardinale Winery, have given her the skills and knowledge of the land to transform Matanzas Creek cuvées into world class wines that display a harmonious interplay between grapes and terroir.

Aged in a combination of stainless steel, neutral French oak barrels and puncheons, the 2024 Matanzas Creek Chenin Blanc has aromas of lemongrass, pears, and green apples, with hints of Honeydew melon, ginger, and a delicate saline note. The palate is medium-bodied, with flavors of pears, white peaches, and lime zest lifted by bright acidity and a mineral streak.

"This winery has been producing grapes since 1977, and the wheelhouse has always been aromatic versions of Sauvignon Blanc. But I was so excited to hear and taste the new project featuring Chenin Blanc. I have long been a fan of the expressions from around the world. This selection is fresh, vibrant, with aromas of citrus peel, white flowers, apple, and notes of green papaya on the nose; the texture and flavors on the palate are flinty with layers of white peaches, melon, spiced orange, and mouth-watering acidity on the finish."

91 points, Vinous:
"The 2024 Chenin Blanc California, from sites in both Mendocino and Sonoma, is varietally pure and expressive. Chenin roundness and rich orchard fruit tones join with a chalky, steely sense of tension and a lift of white flowers. Though it's very low in alcohol (around 11.5%), there's a sense of textural generosity that works so well."

90 points, Jeb Dunnuck:
"A new wine in the range, the 2024 Chenin Blanc boasts a bright silver/straw hue and is fresh and savory with notes of salty earth, citrus pith, and melon rind. The palate is fresh, with a lightweight and lean frame, a haunting feel, and a delicate touch. It’s a refreshing wine with a clean, chalky texture that would disappear quickly at the table. Drink this lovely, fresh white over the next several years."
