Production & Aging:
This limited release starts with Michter’s US*1 Sour Mash Whiskey, which is then finished in a second custom barrel made from 18-month air-dried American white oak. These barrels are toasted—not charred—allowing the whiskey to develop enhanced sweetness and complexity without the deeper smokiness of charred oak. The finishing process introduces softer wood notes and a creamy texture.
Distinctive Characteristics:
- Finished in toasted barrels for added complexity and sweetness.
- Unique category: sour mash whiskey that is neither labeled as bourbon nor rye.
- Lower proof enhances drinkability and accentuates delicate flavor notes.
- Limited annual release, often highly sought-after and collectible.
Ideal Serving Suggestions:
- Neat: Best enjoyed in a Glencairn or tulip glass to showcase its soft vanilla and toffee nose.
- With a splash of water: Enhances fruit and floral components.
- On the rocks: A single large cube reveals creamy sweetness and light spice.
- Food Pairing: Complements crème brûlée, buttery shortbread, or maple-glazed chicken.
