Introduction:
This is a crystalline, high-altitude Nebbiolo (locally Picotendro) from Carema’s dramatic Alpine terraces. Bright, refined, and mineral-laced, it brings both elegance and precision from one of Piedmont’s most challenging and rewarding appellations.

Terroir:
Grapes come from 50-year-old, pergola-trained vines on terraced slopes of glacial moraine soil, between 300–600 m elevation. Hand-harvested and farmed organically, the wine is vinified with minimal intervention—spontaneous fermentation, long maceration in concrete, followed by aging in exhausted barrels and concrete, all bottled unfiltered with very low sulfur.

Appearance:
Pale to medium ruby, with striking clarity and a fine mineral sheen.

Nose:
Notably vibrant—red cherry, wild strawberry, peony, and violet flow from the glass, followed by savory notes of wild herbs and orange zest.

Palate:
Medium-bodied and lithe, with a silky frame of red and orange fruit. Its vivacious acidity and chalky mineral core lend tension and depth, while gentle spice and forest-floor nuance add complexity.

Finish:
Clean, persistent, and mineral-driven—lingering on cherry fruit, white pepper, and delicate herb tones.

Overall Impression:
The 2020 “Sumié” is an ethereal expression of Carema Nebbiolo—vivid red fruit, floral nuance, and Alpine minerality come together with precision and lift. Balanced and elegant, it’s captivating now and promises graceful evolution over the next 5–8 years.
