The Nicolis family winery, founded in 1951, employs organic farming practices throughout its 42 hectares of vineyards in the Valpolicella Classico zone, located partly on the estate in San Pietro and partly in the hills overlooking the town. No herbicides, pesticides, or fungicides are used. All wines are produced using ambient yeast, making them some of the purest expressions of Valpolicella viticulture found in the market today. Winemaker Giuseppe Nicolis is the second generation of the family to make wine on this small, family-owned and managed estate. (importer notes)
The 2022 Nicolis Valpolicella Classico is a blend of native varietals corvina (65%), rondinella (25%), and molinara (10%) sourced from the traditional Classico viticultural zone in Valpolicella, where the soil has exceptional drainage, and the vines drink in abundant sunshine. Fermented and aged in stainless steel, it has brambly red fruit aromas and a medium-bodied palate redolent with black raspberries and red cherries, with accents of savory herbs. Plush tannins and bright acidity make this wine approachable and oh-so-easy to love!

90 points, Wine Pilot:
"Valpolicella seems to be enjoying a bump in interest, deservedly so, as some producers of Amarone look to move to more elegant, lighter, less alcoholic and fresher wines. A deep garnet hue here, the wine is quite a fleshy style with plums, red fruits - notably cherries and raspberries - crushed herbs and beef stock notes. A wine of medium length, there is plenty of acidity apparent here and some very fine tannins. Drink this over the next couple of years."
