Joel Peterson, renowned zin master behind the great wines of Ravenswood, is the visionary behind Once & Future Wine Company. This project is the embodiment of his mission to return to his roots and to craft small-production California wines that are pure expressions of varietal and terroir. This stellar offer is a testament to his success.
The Old Hill Ranch Vineyard is one of the oldest vineyards in Sonoma and was revived and revitalized by a small group of visionaries including Joel. It brings forth outstanding zinfandels that are benchmarks for the rest of the valley.
Today's wine comes from 136-year-old vines (Pro tip: Old vines produce smaller amounts of fruit, but the grapes are very ripe and concentrated.) that were aged in a combination of new (30%) and seasoned (70%) French oak barrels. Indeed, one sip gives away its ancient vine origins; it is ultra-rich, with aromas and flavors of blackberries, cassis, and black currants laced with notes of cocoa on a silky-smooth frame that finishes long.

"The 2020 Zinfandel Old Hill Vineyard is a heady, boisterous wine...Rich, deep, and layered, with tons of personality, the Old Hill is terrific. Super-ripe red cherry, spice, and blood orange linger." (1/22)
