Pedroncelli's fourth-generation winery was instrumental in establishing the Sonoma Valley as a world-class wine destination. Since 1927, when John Pedroncelli purchased a small vineyard and winery, the family has been dedicated to making wines of exceptional quality.
Today, the Pedroncellis craft varietally correct wines that beautifully express the various terroirs of their numerous Dry Creek Valley vineyards.
Zinfandel was the first grape planted at Pedroncelli Winery in the early 1900s and was the first varietal labeled under the family name in 1947. Using the budwood from the mother vineyard to clone a second generation carries the family’s vineyard story forward. The fruit from three generations of these “mother” vines is part of today’s wine, as well as fruit from the Bushnell and Giovannoni vineyards.*
Blended with 12% petite Sarah and aged for twelve months in American oak barrels, the 2023 Pedroncelli Mother Clone Zinfandel has spicy aromas of cinnamon and white pepper along with red berries and a touch of vanilla. Black cherry flavors blend with vanilla, licorice, and warm baking spices, complemented by balanced acidity. The berry-spice combination, so typical of Dry Creek zinfandel, includes a round peppery finish, which is a hallmark of the house style.*
