Pride Mountain Vineyards was founded in 1990 by Jim and Carolyn Pride. Situated on Spring Mountain at the site of Summit Ranch, where grapes have been cultivated since 1885, the winery has vineyards in both Napa and Sonoma Counties. It has breathtaking views of Mount St. Helena and the Vaca Mountains to the north and east, and the Sonoma Coastal Ranges to the west and south. Its hillside, south-facing vineyards benefit from abundant sun exposure; in order to craft a well-balanced chardonnay, the winery sources some of its fruit from respected growers in cooler areas of the Napa Valley. The resulting wine seamlessly straddles the line between opulence and elegance.
Barrel-fermented and aged for 10 months in a combination of new (10%) and seasoned French oak barrels, the 2022 Pride Mountain Vineyards Chardonnay Napa Valley is super expressive, with aromas of orange blossoms, zested ginger, and subtle hints of salty air mingling with Meyer lemons and stone fruits. The lushly-textured palate is resplendent with lemon zest, white nectarines, hazelnuts, and buttered brioche. The finish is long and complex, with vibrant acidity that perfectly complements the rich flavors.*
"The 2022 chardonnay has delicately played, soft-spoken scents of apple butter, lemongrass, and persimmons, with hints of sea spray, marzipan, and beeswax. The medium- to full-bodied palate is elegant and refreshing, with a silky texture and a pure, citrusy lift on the finish."
"The 2022 chardonnay is a bright, fresh effort, all barrel-fermented but with only 10% new oak; just 30% of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation. Toasted almond notes accent pear, melon, and pineapple fruit in this plump, medium- to full-bodied wine that seems tropical at times but finishes crisp and lemony."
"The 2022 Chardonnay (Napa Valley) has quite a bit of density and power, surprisingly so. Lemon confit, marzipan, herbs, and white flowers are nicely delineated. Partially blocked malolactic fermentation keeps the flavors brisk. What stands out most is the wine's mid-palate richness. Bright saline notes play off lightly tropical overtones on the finish."
