PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Cava is Spain's signature sparkler. Made in the Penedès region of Catalonia, it is crafted in the méthode champenoise, the process used in Champagne where the secondary fermentation is carried out in the bottle. Native grapes macabeo, xerel-lo, and parellada usually make up the blend - and the results are always terrific as well as easy on the wallet.
The Raventós i Blanc estate, which is situated on 90 hectares of woodlands and vineyards, was founded in 1497 and has been passed on through the family to the present day. It was a member of the Raventós family, Josep Raventós Fatjó, who made the first Cava in1872. In 1984, on the family estate, Josep-Maria Raventós founded the winery as we know it today with a singular focus on achieving the highest quality wines. Today, the father and son team of Manuel and Pepe Raventós (Josep-Maria’s son and grandson) work side by side, continuing the prestigious lineage of this remarkable estate. (importer notes)
The wines of Raventós i Blanc are sourced from vineyards in Penedès' Conca del Riu Anoia, a small geographical area centered around the River Anoia Basin, between the Catalan pre-coastal and coastal ranges. Here, the calcareous soil and the moderating influences of the water create milder temperatures and a longer ripening season, which result in grapes that deftly balance fruit intensity and acidity.
