PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
MacDonnell family got their start making wine for family and friends from grapes grown on their property. "Kith & Kin" was borne of this lovely tradition. Today, the second generation of the MacDonnell family has cemented the estate's reputation as a producer of expressive, ultra-premium Napa Valley cabernets.
A blend of 93% cabernet sauvignon, 4% petit verdot, 2% merlot, and 1% malbec aged for 14 months in French oak barrels (40% new), the 2019 Kith & Kin Cabernet Sauvignon has "beautifully complex and soft aromatics of violets, cola, ripe fig, and plum. The generous palate opens with bright, ripe blackberry and boysenberry, softening through the mid-palate with black cherry, cocoa, and allspice. Notes of licorice and tarragon on the finish lead to fine-grained tannins that effortlessly round this young, yet so approachable cabernet (winery notes). Check out the press!
92 points, Wine Spectator:
"Ripe and lush, but also fresh, with a very enticing beam of loganberry, açaí berry, and raspberry fruit flavors driving through, flecked with anise and apple wood accents along the way. There's focused, juicy energy through the finish. Drink now through 2032."
92 points, Tasting Panel:
"Dense and meaty, with an anise and roasted coffee backdrop. A parade of red and black fruit march around its upright structure. Finishes with a burnish of cinnamon cedar that keeps the palate satisfied."
