How does the inaugural vintage of a wine receive 95 point ratings from the press and legions of fans? It all comes down to terroir. Those behind today's sensational offer are well aware of their abundant viticultural gifts and let the terroir take the lead. The results? A stunning, complex Cabernet that seamlessly straddles the line between opulence and elegance.
Stony Hill's beginnings go back to 1943, when Fred and Eleanor McCrea stumbled onto a 168-acre goat ranch hidden away on the slopes of Spring Mountain. They purchased the property and developed it into their dream wine estate.*
Known as Napa Valley's first cult producer, the winery made its mark with its Chardonnay, thanks to Stony Hill's high elevation, abundant sun exposure, and volcanic soil. Over the years, other varietals were planted, but the first Cabernet Sauvignons, made by current winemaker Reid Griggs and released in 2009, sealed Stony Hill's fate as one of the Valley's most iconic wineries.*
2022 presented Stony Hill with an opportunity to source pristine Cabernet Sauvignon from colleagues across the valley on Howell Mountain: Ink Grade Estate and Heitz Cellar's Linda Falls Vineyard, creating a stunning blend with Stony Hill Vineyard's iconic Spring Mountain fruit. This "one of one" bottling showcases some of the most prestigious mountain fruit - from opposing mountain ranges - joining together in one glass.*
Aged for 22 months in French and Austrian puncheons, casks, and concrete, the 2022 Stony Hill "SHV" Cabernet Sauvignon fills the glass with aromas and flavors of fresh red plum, black cherry, graphite, and forest floor. This lithe mountain wine displays supple tannins and tremendous breadth and length without being heavy.*

95 points, Decanter:
"The wine shows a distinctly ripe fruit profile, yet remains elegant and compact, with extraordinary focus, precision and tension. The graphite character is pronounced, layered with rich cedarwood nuance, though without the overripe tones one might expect from the vintage. A subtle touch of agave nectar appears on the palate, supported by impressive texture and firm tannin grip."
95 points, James Suckling:
"This has a real mountainous feel, a slight reductive edge and a volcanic, earth-driven character, showing dark cherries and plums layered with spices, wild herbs, wet stones and floral perfume. The full-bodied palate offers firmly framed yet integrated tannins, bright acidity and a luscious, taut and nervy finish."
Order the 2022 Stony Hill Vineyards "SHV" Cabernet Sauvignon between now and Wednesday, June 24th, at 4 PM. Orders will be ready for pickup on Friday, June 26th, after 4 PM.
