Introduction:
Tornatore's Etna Rosso is a vivid expression of why Nerello Mascalese has captured the attention of wine lovers worldwide — elegant, mineral-driven, and unmistakably volcanic. Sourced from old-vine terraced vineyards on the northern slope of Mount Etna near Castiglione di Sicilia, this is a wine that punches well above its weight, delivering the complexity and freshness of a much pricier bottle with a clarity of terroir that is Etna's calling card.

Terroir:
The vineyards sit at elevations up to 1,000 meters on Etna's north-facing slopes, where volcanic soils — formed from centuries of lava flow, ash, and stone disintegration — impart the wine's signature mineral intensity and saline tension. The mountain climate brings cooler temperatures and higher rainfall than the rest of Sicily, moderating ripeness and preserving the natural acidity that gives Nerello Mascalese its distinctive finesse. This combination of altitude, aspect, and soil is what sets Etna Rosso apart from virtually every other red wine on the island.

Tasting notes:
The 2022 Tornatore Etna Rosso has aromas of Morello cherries, strawberries, and raspberries, with accents of dried herbs, white pepper, and volcanic stone. The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully balanced; juicy red and dark berries are framed by fine, grainy tannins and firm, lively acidity that keep everything focused and fresh. A subtle, savory quality threads through the mid-palate, backed by the wine's signature volcanic minerality, with very subtle oak integration from its time in large wooden barrels. The finish is clean and mineral-driven, with lingering notes of cherries, dried herbs, and a mineral fade that is quintessentially Etna.

Press:
92 points, James Suckling:
"A bright, fruity wine with pristine red cherries, a whiff of flowers and smoky aromas. Medium-bodied, it has a crunchy palate with crisp acidity and chalky tannins."

90 points, Jeb Dunnuck:
"A bright red hue, the 2022 Etna Rosso is fresh and pure with red cherries, cranberries, fresh orange zest, and fresh herbs and flowers. Including a 5% splash of Nerello Cappuccio in the wine, it was aged in barrel and stainless steel (roughly 50% each) and is medium-bodied, with refreshing acidity, fine tannins, delicate saltiness, and an elegant and pure frame. It’s a total charmer and, I imagine, a killer value to drink over the next few years."
