Torre Zambra is a family-owned winery dating back to 1910, but family member Laurentino De Cerchio, who took over the reins after World War II, was responsible for making the property an international success. After the war, which ravaged the estate, he replanted the vineyards, built a cellar, and bottled the first "Torre Zambra" vintage in 1961. He is responsible for making the estate one of the most revered properties in Abruzzo.
The 2022 Torre Zambra "Valle Maris" Montepulciano d'Abruzzo was fermented in stainless steel and aged in concrete vats for 6 months. Medium-to-full-bodied, it has aromas and flavors of black cherries and blackberries layered with notes of wet stone and savory herbs. Check out the press!
92 points, Wine Enthusiast:
"The nose is fresh, cool, and lightly herbaceous, with aromas of damp earth, wet stones, tart blackberries, coffee grinds, and fresh thyme. Ripe black cherries and sweet blackberries define the palate, until a dark chocolate finish. Tannins are dense and polished, while acid sleekly outlines the palate of a wine that perfectly straddles the space between intrigue and simple pleasure." (11/1/24)
91 points, James Suckling:
"Aromas of brambles, blackcurrants, blueberries, and eucalyptus followed by sandalwood, toast, and a touch of dried wild herbs. Full-bodied with chewy yet fine-grained tannins." (9/27/23)
