Introduction: Domaine Raimbault-Pineau is a multi-generational family estate in Sury-en-Vaux, just five kilometers north of Sancerre, where the family has been making wine for over three centuries. Their Coteaux du Giennois is produced from a vineyard called "Les Vignes du Dimanche" in the village of Saint-Père — an appellation that sits just north of Sancerre and shares its geology and Sauvignon Blanc heritage at a fraction of the price. This is exactly the wine sommeliers point to when they want to offer the Sancerre experience to value-conscious buyers. Importantly, this wine is also made as both a white (Sauvignon Blanc) and a red (Pinot Noir). This note covers the white, which is the dominant and more widely available expression — please confirm the color/style on the bottle.

Terroir: The vineyards of Coteaux du Giennois sit on a mix of limestone, flint (silex), and clay-siliceous soils with a limestone substratum — the same geological framework that defines the great appellations of the Upper Loire. The Loire River's proximity moderates temperatures and maintains the cool-climate freshness and high natural acidity that Sauvignon Blanc depends on for its aromatic precision. First produced by the domaine in 1991, the wine is a genuine expression of this underappreciated appellation.

Appearance: Pale lemon-yellow with green highlights — bright, clear, and youthful.

Nose: Fresh and aromatic — lemon verbena, citrus, ripe white grapefruit, and a touch of freshly mown grass lead, with a clean mineral underpinning of wet stone and flint. The producer notes cite "richness of aromas combining the sweetness of fruit with a beautiful minerality." White Horse Wine described "lemon verbena complemented by freshly mown grass, ocean breeze, and wet stones." Delicate and precise rather than exuberant.

Palate: Light- to medium-bodied, crisp, and refreshing, with rounded citrus, green apple, and white fruit flavors balanced by the wine's lively, palate-stimulating acidity. Fine lees aging adds a subtle creamy texture and depth without obscuring the wine's essential freshness. Balanced and stylish — a genuinely food-friendly, terroir-honest Sauvignon Blanc.

Finish: Clean, mineral, and lingering with a citrus and chalk-edged fade. Energetic and refreshing throughout.

Food Pairings:
🥩 Meat: Grilled sea bass with lemon and capers, shrimp with garlic and herbs, or roast chicken with a light herb sauce.
🥦 Vegetarian: Asparagus with vinaigrette, goat cheese and herb tart, or a spring salad with lemon dressing.
🧀 Charcuterie Board: Fresh chèvre, Crottin de Chavignol, smoked salmon, cornichons, and sourdough crackers.

Overall Impression: A textbook value alternative to Sancerre — same appellation family, same grape, same geological bones, at half the price. Fresh, mineral-driven, and honest, the 2024 should be enjoyed young. Serve well-chilled at 46–50°F (10–12°C); drink now through 2026–2027.
