The 2018 Andrea Oberto Barolo del Commune di La Morra was sourced from the Annunziata, Boilo, and San Francesco vineyard sites in La Morra and aged in a combination of large oak casks and neural oak barrels for 24 months, followed by an additional 6 months in the bottle before release. Intense and bright garnet-red in color, it has aromas of red cherries with notes of leather and graphite that follow on the medium-bodied palate. Polished tannins and lively acidity bring the wine to a long and satisfying finish.
Andrea Oberto does such a fine job with his Barolos. The 2018s are a touch lighter than most vintages, but that is a signature of a growing season with quite a bit of rain, including a spell just before harvest. The 2018s saw 12-14 days on the skins, followed by pretty quick malos in December and January. The wines were racked into oak in January, equal parts neutral French oak barriques and 25/50HL casks for the crus. These wines don't receive much attention, which is a shame, as they are consistently outstanding.

92 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2018 Barolo del Comune di La Morra reveals ripe fruit, dried cherry, black rose, and toasted anise. The bouquet is very pretty indeed, but the muscle of the mouthfeel suggests a pairing with grilled or skillet-seared meat." (8/11/22)
91 points, James Suckling:
"Some rich berry and mild-spice character. Medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannin that emerges at the end. Should drink well from 2024. (10/2/22)
90 points, Vinous:
"The 2018 Barolo del Comune di La Morra is a fleshy, succulent wine to drink now and over the next decade or so. Sweet red cherry, spice, cedar, and tobacco are nicely pushed forward. Soft curves and silky tannins add to an impression of immediacy. It's hard to go wrong here." (11/21)
