Château Picque Caillou, located near the iconic First-Growth estate Château Haut-Brion, is an 18th-century estate currently owned by Isabelle and Paulin Calvet who, along with their five children, have renovated the property to craft world-class wines that speak of the terroir of Pessac-Leognan. Indeed, the gravelly, well-drained soils make the vines' roots dig deep for hydration and nutrients, and this phenomenon, along with the Calvets' non-interventionist approach to winemaking, has helped them to bring their goal to fruition.
The 2021 Château Picque Caillou, a blend of 60% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, and 10% petit verdot, has aromas of juicy black and red fruits with a hint of marzipan. The palate is medium-to-full-bodied and silky, with flavors of redcurrants, black cherries, and cassis laced with accents of nutmeg, baking spices, and wet stone. The finish is long, driven by bright acidity and supple tannins.

93 points & Cellar Selection, Wine Enthusiast:
"While this wine is still young, it has all the makings of fine richness. From vineyards surrounded by the suburbs of Bordeaux city, it has acidity along with blackberry flavors and pure fruitiness that balance the tannins."
91 points, James Suckling:
"Smoky, dusty reduction with plenty of red cherries, currants, oranges, and a lactic undertone. Medium body on the palate with chalky tannins and lots of succulent fruit. Fresh, zesty finish with a subtle, medium-long finish."
