You'd be hard-pressed to find a more talented and prolific winemaker in Oregon than Ken Wright. His pinots each display a terroir-driven complexity and purity of fruit characters that are unrivaled among their peers. Why? It’s all about the terroir. Each of the region's seven sub-appellations has a distinct micro-climate and soil composition; no other varietal puts these characteristics on display like pinot noir.

From early on in his career, Ken Wright has made all of his pinot noirs single vineyard wines; in each of his cuvées, the terroir brings forth a unique expression of this noble grape. This afternoon's feature is a sublime expression of Dundee Hills pinot noir.

The Dundee Hills AVA is located in the northwestern part of the Willamette Valley. Situated 1000 feet above sea level, it is comprised of red, volcanic soil - known as Jory soil - that is well-drained and full of iron and ancient marine sediments. The appellation benefits from sea breezes which help to cool the vineyards after warm sunshine during the day. These are ideal building blocks for top-notch pinot noirs.

Today's wine is a testament to the harmonious marriage between pinot noir and the Dundee Hills terroir. Medium-bodied and velvety-smooth, it has a luscious core of plum and raspberry fruits that leap out of the glass, with delicate aromas of lilac, hyacinth, and fresh linen. Velvety tannins coat the palate and bring the wine to a long and satisfying finish. (from winery notes)

94 points, Wine Spectator:

"A distinctive red, with broad shoulders. Yet this retains a sense of finesse and richness, offering raspberry and guava flavors accented by forest floor, rose petal, and black tea notes. Finishes with medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2033. 325 cases made." (2/28/25 issue)

ABV: 12.2%
