PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEWS:
World-renowned importer and consulting winemaker Jorge Ordóñez is Toro’s most important modern pioneer and the man behind today’s gloriously good offer. When Jorge first traveled to Toro in 1991 there were only five cooperative wineries, but there were acres of incredible pre-phylloxera vineyards, planted on their original rootstock. In 1995, Jorge traveled to Toro with the Eguren family of Rioja; in 1997 they established Bodegas Numanthia. They sold the estate in 2007 and Jorge founded Bodegas Ordóñez. One of the wines produced by Bodegas Ordóñez, Triton, is considered by many to be Toro’s finest value.*

The 2017 Triton is a mono-varietal sourced from five vineyards planted in 1900, 1947, 1954, 1956, and 1958. These gnarly old vines have brought forth a wine that is characteristic of Toro: full-bodied, lushly textured and intense. Aged in seasoned oak for 12 months before bottling, it is rich, ripe and redolent with black cherries, black raspberries and cassis on the nose and palate. The fruit flavors are layered with accents of sweet baking species, vanilla and hints of cocoa.

93 points, Jeb Dunnuck:
“Made from 100% Tinta de Toro aged a year in used barrels, the 2017 Tritón comes from multiple vineyards and is made in decent amounts. It's a rich, powerful wine loaded with notions of blackcurrants, dark chocolate, licorice, crushed rocks, and crushed violets. It's full-bodied, has impressive depth of fruit, sweet tannins, and a great finish. It's a rocking wine that can be drunk today or cellared for 15 years or more.” (9/6/19)

91 points, James Suckling:
“An array of ripe dark-berry and raspberry aromas with biscuity nuances, as well as boysenberries. The palate has a sleek, essence-like feel. Such richness. Open-knit with soft berries. Very long and very ripe. Drink or hold.” (6/30/19)
